Physical Therapy Global Health Club, Colorado
In May, we began our discussions with the Physical Therapy Global Health Club located at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus about the critical importance of Physical Therapy in Global Health. The club’s 30 student members were seeking greater knowledge about and a stronger foundation in Global Health.
Through emBOLDen Alliances’ field experiences in several countries, we have understood firsthand the necessity of each healthcare team member collaboratively providing holistic, complete patient care. In addition, we firmly believe that Physical Therapists have a vital role in creating and actualizing Global Health practice, program, and policy!
As a result of our teaching efforts, we have been invited by the Student Leadership and key Faculty members to assist in the creation of a Global Health Elective that will be incorporated into the Physical Therapy Program curriculum in the coming years.
From the PT Global Health Club Leaders:
“Global health is a relevant and important topic for all healthcare professionals, and EmBOLDen Alliances has been helping our physical therapy program become more well versed in this area of healthcare. With the help of EA, our physical therapy program hopes to create a global health curriculum that provides future physical therapists with a greater understanding of global issues in health, as well as a proficiency in providing the best, most sustainable type of healthcare in global settings. Our hope is for physical therapy to be a valuable part of the global healthcare team on a large scale, and both EA and the CU PT program will work together toward that end. I, for one, am honored to be a part of this process and am thankful to EmBOLDen for their valuable contributions that are making all this possible.”
